Boy breaks Guinness record after playing guitar for 53 hrs
Report from Agra, India. June 25, 2007:

Aakash Gupta has made his way into the Guinness Book of Records by playing non-stop guitar for 53 hours in Agra. This fourteen-year-old, class IXth student of St. Peter’s began his record breaking attempt on Sunday morning.

On Tuesday, he broke the previous record of 44 hours held by American Brian Engelhart, Guinness Book of Records representative Reilf Hann said.

Expressing gratitude for support and cooperation to the people of Agra, Aakash said he was now trying to better his own record. I would like to thank people of Agra who have supported me throughout. Only with their help, I was able to organise this programme in which I have broken the previous record. I will now try to better my own record,” Akash said.

Reilf Hann presented a Guinness Book of Records certificate to Akash, after monitoring the attempt. After breaking the record at 6:31 am, he continued to play till he surpassed his Limca Book of Records time of 53 hours. Hann said that Aakash showed a lot of stamina while breaking the record.
He had a lot of dedication and concentration and I am very pleased with his record,” said Reilf Hann.
Mayor of Agra, Anjula Singh, who had come to encourage this young protegee, crowned Aakash for the feat.

Chhaya Gupta, mother of Aakash also thanked the people of Agra for supporting her son throughout.
He faced many problems for achieving this feat. The people of Agra have supported him a lot. That is why he could break the record, said Chhaya Gupta, his mother and Krishan Gupta, his father.

Making Music Being Well 2010

Making Music Being Well is a joint venture between Australian Music Therapy Association and Music Play for Life campaign. It is an annual celebration of active music making for wellbeing.

Musical Futures is a Queensland Conservatorium Research Centre initiative set up to support the outcomes of a five year international research project called 'Sustainable futures for music cultures: Towards an ecology of musical diversity'. The project is funded by the Australian Research Council and involves ten partners across Australia, Europe and the US, including the International Music Council founded by UNESCO in 1946. It aims to increase understanding of the mechanisms of musical sustainability by closely examining ten different music cultures: how musicians interact with communities, how the music industry and governments affect musical life, as well as underlying values and attitudes. It will deliver an online resource, freely accessible to everyone in the world, to assist in improving the chances of survival and success for music cultures.

Congratulations to Dr Kalaly Chu on her new book

Dr. Kalaly Chu (2009) Music and Visual Art: Their correspondences and a new perspective in exploring appreciation in education and in our life.

In this book, the arts are perceived from an interdisciplinary dimensions (music, visual art, media and psychology). Interdisciplinary study has been a significant strategy in teaching and learning nowadays. The inclusion of the arts is reflected in the curriculum in both primary and tertiary education. The major research problems in this book are: (1) What are the common elements in music and the visual arts? (2) Do people make correspondences between music and painting? (3) How do we define the role of music and its adaptability in linking with other expressive forms in contemporary education?

The entire book serves to redefine the value and uniqueness of the arts in the holistic development of an individual. The significance of this book lies in using a sensory perspective to explore the ‘multi-nature’ of the arts. Sensory qualities, such as brightness, intensity and line are used as vocabularies to interpret art perception. The facets in music and visual art are illustrated and analyzed by the artworks and compositions of the Impressionists, Expressionists and through mass media, Japanese animation etc. This book is available/can be purchased at www.amazon.com
