SERVICE PROVIDERS
DR KALALY CHU Ph.D, MME, BA (Hons), Dip. Fine Arts, Dip. Complementary Therapies.
Dr. Kalaly Chu received her doctorate degree (Music Education) from University of New South Wales. Kalaly is the founder of Aesthetics Harvest. The mission of Aesthetics Harvest is to cultivate children’s skills of observation and imagination through the arts.
She has taught children for more than one and a half decades in various cultural and educational contexts. She deeply believes that art has played a significant role in children’s holistic development. Her research and teaching experiences in Australia and Asia have enriched her understanding about teaching children from different ethnic backgrounds. Further, her working experience in a national gallery and as an illustrator in a publishing company deepened her knowledge about the representation of the arts.
Kalaly’s research interests are holistic/aesthetic education, early childhood/primary education, teaching and learning of the arts, cognition and perception. In the past decade, she has presented conference papers related to the arts in Asia-Pacific regions. She has visited and has collected her teaching materials in several European countries (such as in UK, France, Vienna and Hungary). Her recent book is Music and Visual Art: Their correspondences and a new perspective in exploring appreciation in education and in our life.
ALEXIS FITZGERALD A.Mus.A., A.T.C.L.(Teachers), L.T.C.L. Piano,
Founder/Director Esk Community Choir
My participation in music and singing began in Primary school, continued through Secondary College with the inclusion of choral conducting, and moved to Tertiary level graduating as Music Specialist at a Brisbane High School. Diplomas in Piano performance and Teacher Diplomas were gained at Secondary College and the Brisbane Conservatorium of Music. Private piano teaching continued “after school”.
Relocation and being the wife of a busy country G.P. meant a drastic change to my musical career. Teaching went on hold to rear the family of 5 children whilst volunteer music teaching and choir conducting continued at the local primary school. Being a competent pianist in a small rural town meant many requests for performance and as accompanist to singers.
In 1978, Esk Community Choir was formed with 6 singers and continues today with a membership of 48. This is a busy SATB choir with many fund-raising concerts, charity performances, musical productions and 2 overseas performance trips to its credit (one of which was completely self-funded, raising $180,000).
