Title: Postgraduate Scholarship in Intercultural Inquiry in Western Arnhem Land

Description: This scholarship is funded by an ARC discovery project grant ‘intercultural inquiry in a trans-national contact: exploring the legacy of the 1948 American-Australian scientific expedition to Arnhem Land’ and will provide support for a research project leading to a PhD. The objective of the research project is to better understand the contemporary significance of the historic 1948 Arnhem Land Expedition through investigation of the repatriation of digital copies of its archival records (still photography, film, sound recordings, visual art and material culture) to community based digital knowledge centers in Western Arnhem Land.
Eligibility: Applicants should have an Honours 1 or 2A degree in musicology, history, performance studies, linguistics, anthropology, medial and cultural studies or a related discipline. Applicants must be Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents or New Zealand citizens.
Amount awarded: The scholarship stipend is $27,222 per annum (tax exempt) for up to three years.

The salary range for Associate Professor is A$116K to A$127K per year, depending on qualifications and experience (plus 17% employer superannuation, plus leave loading).
As one of Australia's leading research and teaching universities, UNSW is well placed to build on its significant strengths in the creative and performing arts and in media and communication. The School of English, Media and the Performing Arts (EMPA), in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, brings together expertise in scholarship and research, with professional and creative practice. It hosts the Creative Practice and Research Unit, and collaborates with the Australia Ensemble and with the UNSW Journalism and Media Research Centre. EMPA teaches programs at undergraduate and postgraduate level in disciplines including Creative Writing, Dance, English, Film, Journalism, Media, Music, PR and Advertising, and Theatre and Performance Studies.
As part of its planned growth, the School is now seeking to appoint an Associate Professor (Level D) in Music, with a successful background in music composition and/or scholarship and an outstanding capacity to provide leadership in the Music program. The appointee will become Program Convenor in Music for an initial period of three years. The appointee will also be expected to contribute to teaching in relevant music courses, undertake postgraduate supervision, participate in the creative and scholarly life of a busy and integrated music program, and maintain and develop excellence in their own research area and/or creative practice.
Working in conjunction with the Head and other staff of the School, a key role for the appointee will be to instigate and lead curriculum renewal for the music program at UNSW and especially for the Bachelor of Music degree.
The position is a full time, continuing appointment and is available from January 2011.

The Keep Australia Beautiful Council with support from The Coca Cola Foundation is looking to fund projects from community groups, schools, local authorities, associations and small to medium enterprises.

Community Heritage Grants Community Heritage Grants: Applications Now Open
The National Library of Australia is calling for applications for the 2010 Community Heritage Grants program. Grants of up to $15,000 are available to community groups around the country to help preserve and manage locally held, nationally significant cultural heritage collections for future generations.
Community organisations such as historical societies, museums, public libraries, archives, Indigenous and migrant community groups which provide access to their cultural heritage collections are eligible to apply.
A wide range of projects may qualify for grants, including: significance assessments; preservation needs assessments; conservation and preservation activities and collection management training.

One Voice Choir Join a With One Voice Choir today!
Creativity Australia has limited places available in the CBD mixed community/business choir, Melbourne Sings, rehearsing Tuesdays at 5:15pm at Sofitel Melbourne on Collins and also seeks members for Geelong Sings, commencing at Geelong Performing Arts Centre on Mondays at 5:30pm. These choir programs involve members of the general public and employees from various city businesses, disadvantaged people and migrants (especially unemployed ones). The choirs rehearse with a top choir leader and there are performances scheduled for special events. Catering is provided as well as Allan’s Music discount cards for all members.

Charlie Perkins scholarships The Charlie Perkins Trust is excited to announce two new postgraduate scholarships that will provide talented Indigenous Australians with the opportunity to study at the University of Oxford for up to three years.
The scholarships are directed towards Indigenous Australians who have the potential to become leaders in their field of study and their in their communities. The first two Charlie Perkins scholars are being funded by the Australian Government (through the Chevening program) and Rio Tinto.
In their applications, candidates will need to identify as Indigenous. The Charlie Perkins scholarship will only be awarded to candidates who have been accepted into a postgraduate degree program offered at the University of Oxford. In most circumstances, candidates will need to hold a First Class or upper Second Class Honours degree in order to be accepted to the University of Oxford.
Applications for the 2010-2011 Charlie Perkins Scholarships opened on the 16 November 2009, and will close at 5:00pm AEDST Friday 29 January 2010. Please note: the required application to the University of Oxford must be completed by 22 January 2010.
